Building an Online Presence That Wins Trust: Lessons From a Brampton Entrepreneur
Karan Devgan shares how business owners and professionals can build an online presence across a website, social media and search that turns attention into trust.

Before people call you, they look you up. Clients, partners, landlords, journalists and even future employees search your name before they decide whether to trust you. Karan Devgan is a Brampton entrepreneur, Commercial Real Estate Broker and founder of a social media marketing company. He believes your online presence is now your first impression, and you can shape it.
Own your name
Start with a website that you own, at your own domain. Social platforms change their rules and their reach, but your website stays yours. It should clearly say who you are, what you do, where you do it and how to contact you.
Be consistent everywhere
Use the same name, photo, title and description across your website, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and directory listings. Consistency helps people recognize you. It also helps search engines connect your profiles to the same person or business.
Show your work, not only your title
Anyone can call themselves an expert. Real trust comes from proof:
- Awards and recognition, with links to the source
- Media coverage and interviews
- Client reviews and testimonials
- Articles and videos that share your knowledge
- Community involvement and the causes you support
Choose the right platforms
You don't need to be everywhere. Pick the platforms where your customers spend time and show up there regularly. For local businesses, that usually means a Google Business Profile, Instagram and one or two others. Short-form video on TikTok and Instagram can reach new local audiences quickly.
Tell a real story
People connect with people. Share why you started, what you care about and what you're building. Karan's own presence covers business, real estate, community leadership and Punjabi arts and culture through Flower City Bhangra and Flower City Gidha. Each part reinforces the others.
Keep it current
An outdated website or a social profile that hasn't been updated in two years sends the wrong message. Set a simple routine: post regularly, update your site when something changes and reply to messages quickly.
